Oh what Jose Fonte must be thinking this morning.
The news that Slaven Bilic rejected the chance to sign both Renato Sanches and Grzegorz Krychowiak in the summer hasn’t gone down well at all with West Ham supporters.
Following three successive defeats in the league, Hammers fans thought the club would make a move in the transfer market to cheer them up.
How wrong they were.
Just to compile their misery even more, David Sullivan revealed last night that the club could have added two talented midfielders to their squad.
Everyone knows all about Sanches, yet it is Swansea who have benefited from Bayern Munich’s decision to let the highly-rated youngster go out on loan.
In July 2016, Fonte was vocal about Manchester United losing out to Munich in the race for the 20-year-old.
“Being a Premier League player, for me, they missed out on a very good talent,” said the defender.
“He’s a nice kid, he listens to the old guys, he wants to learn, which is good.
“It’s great to have him around and he’ll be the future of the national side, for sure.
“He’s got no fear. He just doesn’t care. He goes and asks for the ball every second.
“He’s got power and strength, energy to run all day and great ability. It is lucky for Bayern Munich that they have him.”
Given the Portuguese international was waxing lyrical about Sanches, he must have had his head in his hands after hearing the news from Sullivan.
