West Ham have wrapped up a deal to bring Ajax youngster Anouar El Mhassani to east London, according to reports from the Netherlands.
While the Hammers have not yet made any announcement over a deal, Dutch publication Ajax Showtime report that the 16-year-old has signed a three-year contract to make the switch to the Academy of Football.
El Mhassani was a regular for the Amsterdam club’s U16 side this season, although the left winger’s season was somewhat hampered by injuries.
After being told at the end of the season that he would not be offered a new deal with the Europa League finalists, El Mhassani has elected to join West Ham.
Hammers fans have been eager to see their club add more than just Pablo Zabaleta to their ranks this summer, but with the likes of Olivier Giroud and Javier Hernandez linked with moves to the London Stadium this is not quite the signing they were looking for.
Still, it will help the club shrug off accusations that they are no longer interested in investing in youth following the loan departure of Reece Oxford to Borussia Monchengladbach.
