Danny Welbeck credits his double against Bournemouth to hard work in training
“The first definitely wasn’t the cleanest,” Welbeck admitted to the club website. “I got a glancing header, I thought it was going in and then it hit my shoulder on the way. It was a great ball from Sead and I think the play down the left to open up that opportunity for the cross was really good.
“The second is one that, once you’ve been hitting those repetitions in training, it becomes a lot easier for you to do. I got into that position today and I didn’t think twice about it.
“The past two years I didn’t have a pre-season and that made it a bit difficult for me, so I’m pleased to have a pre-season. With some of the games that we’ve played at the start of the season it’s not gone too well, but I’m pleased to be on the scoresheet and long may it continue.”
Arsene Wenger pleased with Alexandre Lacazette’s display against Bournemouth
“I kept him out at Liverpool because I thought you can take some time to adapt, but I agree, he is getting stronger and stronger from game to game,” Wenger told the Arsenal website.
“Physically he worked very hard today. He still suffered a little bit in the second half, but physically he’s getting better in every game. And on the football front, you see he is a great player.”
Wenger compares Kylian Mbappe with a footballing great
“I think he is exceptionally intelligent, he has an exceptional character, and exceptional belief,” Wenger told beIN SPORTS.
“I say to my friends, ‘Mbappe is the new Pele’.
“He can become the best player in the world, because he as well has the charisma, the character, the belief.
“You never think you’re speaking to an 18-year-old when you speak to him.
“He always gives you the impression when he gets the ball that something special can happen.”
Thierry Henry questions Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain following comments he made after joining Liverpool
“He spoke on the Liverpool website about that he could see Klopp making him a better player and that there’s a love and togetherness. Are you telling us you didn’t have that at Arsenal?” Henry said on Sky Sports.
“Or are you looking forward to something else? He’s saying that after an hour of training at Liverpool.
“You have to bring something on the table. I have been watching him for a very long time and I still don’t know what he’s good at.
“You can find out on all players what they are not good at, but normally you also find out what they are good at.
“He needs to bring something to the table and give something to work with.”
