The new man at Rockliffe was officially unveiled to the fans at a media conference at Rockliffe Park on Monday.
“I’m very proud and excited, and looking forward to getting to know everyone up here,” he said.
“Speaking to the owner, seeing the determination in him and his passion for driving forward, it aligned with what I felt and what I wanted. Having that clarity of how we’re going to work together is exciting for me and hopefully for everyone else involved.”
Monk hopes to bring a new lease of life to Boro’s bid for an immediate return to the Premier League.
“I’m as determined as the club is to succeed after what’s been a hard season for the club and for the fans,” he said.
“It’s important have a fresh start to rebuild, bring something a little bit different, bring that confidence and enjoyment back.
“There’s no denying the ambition is to get back to the Premier League this season. You have to remind yourself there are a lot of clubs who will be thinking the same so it’s going to be difficult, but it’s a challenge we’re all looking forward to.”
