Toby Alderweireld is entirely focused on Wednesday’s Champions League opener against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday following Saturday’s win over Everton.
But there is no time for Spurs to rest on the laurels of yesterday’s victory, according to Alderweireld, who sent out a clear message on Twitter about the team’s focus after the game.
Spurs will be looking to improve on last season’s effort in the Champions League in which they exited at the group stage, finishing behind Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen.
The Lilywhites won just two of their six games in the group – both against bottom place CSKA Moscow – as they dropped down into the Europa League.
But with a group containing Borussia Dortmund and two-time defending champions Real Madrid – as well as Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia – Mauricio Pochettino’s men face a serious challenge to advance to the knockout stages for the first time since they reached the quarter-finals in the 2010/11 season.
They kick off their European campaign against the German side at Wembley on Wednesday night.
