There has not been any progress on a new contract for Toby Alderweireld this summer, the player confirmed this weekend.
The Belgian has become the main man in the Spurs defence that proved to be the stingiest in the Premier League last season after conceding just 26 goals in 38 games as they finished in second spot.
Tottenham have made a point of securing their top stars to long-term deals over the last year or so, but as of yet there has been no deal for Alderweireld.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of his side’s pre-season game against Manchester City tonight, Alderweireld said there was no more news on any contract as far as he was concerned.
“No news that I know of so nothing… zero,” Alderweireld said when asked about his situation.
With the club yet to make a signing this summer, many fans have said the tying Alderweireld down to a new deal is more important than bringing anyone new in.
The 28-year-old has two years left on his current contract, but reports claim that Spurs have the option to extend the deal by one year if they choose to.
