According to the Birmingham Mail, West Brom bosses have sanctioned a £15million move for the Spurs centre back, but the Albion manager must give the green light before a deal is completed.
Wimmer, who joined Tottenham from FC Koln in 2015, has been targeted by the likes of Southampton and West Brom this summer, but it is Albion who have moved to the front of the queue.
With Jonny Evans being targeted by Manchester City, Wimmer’s arrival could pave the way for the Northern Irish international to join Pep Guardiola’s side, but it is thought Albion will do all they can to keep hold of the defender.
Austrian international Wimmer is deemed surplus to requirements after Mauricio Pochettino’s side recently announced the club-record signing of Davinson Sanchez from Ajax.
The 21-year-old Colombian centre back becomes the club’s first swoop of the summer, with the deal being agreed subject to a medical being completed and a work permit gained.
football.london understands that Sanchez’s medical is taking place this week and that the club believes there is an outside chance that the formalities of the work permit process could be concluded in time for the weekend.
That would mean that Sanchez would be available for selection for Tottenham’s match against Burnley at Wembley on Sunday.
