Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has confirmed that the Potters have rejected a £15m bid from West Ham for Marko Arnautovic – with the Hammers reportedly ready to up their offer.
Reports yesterday emerged that the Austrian international had handed in a transfer request just one year after signing a new deal at the Bet365 Stadium.
Last summer, Eveton were interested in a move before Arnautovic signed his new deal – but this time around it’s West Ham who are leading the chasing pack.
And, Peter Coates has confirmed to the Telegraph that he has already turned down an offer from the Hammers – and reiterated that Arnautovic is a player Stoke do not want to lose.
“We have received a bid from West Ham for Marko and it was turned down,” Coates said.
“Mark [Hughes] is planning to meet with the player and hopefully he can find a positive resolution, as he did last year.
“We will only sell Marko if the terms are right but he’s not a player we want to lose.”
The report claims that West Ham are considering returning with an imprved offer for the Austrian international – who still has three years left on his current Stoke City contract.
