Sporting Lisbon manager Jorge Jesus has responded to any possible transfer rumours surrounding William Carvalho – and reiterated that the midfielder is still in his plans.
West Ham have been hunting a move for the 25-year-old for the last few days, but have hit a stumbling block and have become frustrated after the Portugese side raised their demands.
football.london understands that could lead to the Hammers looking for alternatives – with Porto’s Danilo Pereira one of the names already being scouted.
However, when recently asked about Carvalho in a press conference, Jorge Jesus has claimed he is in the dark about any possible transfer and that the player may struggle at the unnamed club he is being linked to.
He said (as quoted by Ojogo): “I do not know how to respond, because either you journalists know more than I do or I do not have a response to give you. Still today, he worked with me normally and he isn’t in the squad because he can’t play.
“William is a coveted player, who has a market and I do not want to say this about the team we are talking about, but I was still watching today and William Carvalho, if he gets there, will have difficulties to impose himself.”
West Ham are prepared to pay £31million for Carvalho – but may look to Pereira and Benfica’s Serbian midfielder Ljubomir Fejsa should Sporting continue to demand in excess of €40m.
