The Algerian winger has been linked with a move to the Emirates every since Leicester claimed an unlikely Premier League title last year – but so far nothing concrete has emerged.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of Mahrez and the Leicester playmaker has made his desire to join the Gunners clear.
But he could head to Serie A this summer instead to join up with Roma, according to Goal.
The Gunners are still pursuing a move for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and it is believed that they will not make any approach for Mahrez while they continue their attempts to sign the young Frenchman.
With Mahrez set to leave the King Power Stadium this summer after handing in a transfer request, the 26-year-old’s patience is running thin as his entourage have agreed terms with Italian club Roma.
Wenger is believed to prefer a move for Lemar, and will make one last push to bring the 22-year-old to north London. But should his efforts fail, the Gunners will turn their focus to Mahrez.
While Mahrez has reportedly agreed terms with Roma, the club have still not agreed a fee with Leicester over the transfer as their initial bid of €23m is well short of the Foxes’ valuation.
This dispute could buy Arsenal some time to finalise the situation with Lemar before deciding on their approach for Mahrez.
