What did you make of Heung-Min Son and how he affected the game?
It was a fantastic performance and he scored a very good goal. He helped the team to achieve the result. I am very happy with him, not only with him, I think the effort from the whole team. It was a very tough game. Dortmund played really. I am very happy. The effort was excellent from everyone.
How important was it to get off to a winning start for the whole campaign?
I think it was massive, massive to start in that way and win the three points today. I think it means more than three points. It’s difficult to explain because many things happened around the team. I think it was so important to get the three points. Again a fantastic team like Borussia Dortmund, they played very well and have unbelievable players.
I think it’s massive for our confidence. Massive because it will help us against everyone. We need time to improve, time to learn and be better. We are only early in the season, but I think we are happy.
It’s true that the game was so tough and they dominated it. It was tough in the first half, we were very clinical. We had to increase our level and then the game was under control.
I think it was a tough game and it was an important win when you don’t dominate the opponent, but you show different strengths in the team.
Harry Kane said he needed to score in these Champions League games, how do you think he’s gone about it?
I think he was fantastic. You can see today. He scored goals in the Champions League and he will receive the credit he deserves. For me he’s one of the best strikers in the world. There’s no doubt for me. But if you score in this competition, the most important competition in the world, I think it will give him the credit that he deserves.
Dortmund beat you before, do you feel your team has moved up towards their level now?
I think it was only one game. For me, it’s so important to get the three points of course. In the end I think we are in a process to improve. I think today it’s important, because it’s more than three points. It’s Wembley, it’s the perception that we should be changing for our future. To build that confidence and trust in Wembley is so important for our fans and of course for us.
That we can win here is so important and I think that more than today talking about performance, which was good, it’s more important the three points and the perception we can get for the future.
Did the sending off of Jan Vertonghen take any shine off the evening?
I think we need to see it. I don’t think it was the intention of Jan. He told us. But then I don’t know. I think his performance was really good. It was a shame to receive the second yellow card.
You must hope that win shuts people up talking about the Wembley hoodoo?
I hope, I hope that. To help us and stop the talk about hoodoo and everything that we hear in the last year I think. I think it’s fantastic for many things, the victory. Not only because three points helped us start well in the competition but I hope that it starts to stop all of the things that are around the team and the whole club.
You must be very happy that you have Serge Aurier and Fernando Llorente with all their Champions League experience?
I think it will be important for the team. I am so happy. Serge was fantastic today. He showed the quality we saw in him and that’s why we signed him. I think it was his first game after only one week training with the team. He can improve and he can give his experience to the team.
Llorente was fantastic too. He’s still a little bit away from his best performance but he’s doing well. I am so happy with everyone, the new signings and the whole squad. We still need to improve a lot but we are in a good way. The last two victories will help us to improve.
