Mauricio Pochettino has explained why Victor Wanyama has missed out on Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League match against Burnley at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
The Kenya international made his first start of the season in Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Wembley last weekend and did not look sharp against the champions.
He had struggled with a knee injury over the summer, picked up against PSG in the club’s pre-season tour, and Pochettino had explained to the Kenya coach that Wanyama would be better served by missing his country’s international friendlies this month and he was duly left out of that squad.
Now he has missed out on Tottenham’s squad and Pochettino explained: “Victor has a minor problem with his knee and is not available. We’ll assess him in the next few days.”
