Despite winning a ‘treble’ last season, Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United needed to drastically improve their league form after finishing sixth.
As is the way at Manchester United these days they have hit the transfer market in order to take the team to the next level.
But it is highly unlikely they are done just yet with the Red Devils manager still eyeing up extra recruits.
So how many more changes could we see to United’s line-up between now and 31 August?
Manchester United’s current first choice XI:
New arrivals Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku look certain to feature in Mourinho’s first choice line up as we gained a little insight from the UEFA Super Cup game against Real Madrid.
The contentious areas in this team are out wide – on the wings and also at left-back.
Luke Shaw is clearly not a Mourinho favourite and Matteo Darmian got the nod against Madrid on Tuesday.
The ever-improving Henrikh Mkhitaryan is likely to feature on the right, instead of Juan Mata, and the pacey Marcus Rashford will probably be selected ahead of Anthony Martial – another player the manager isn’t too keen on.
Manchester United’s potential first choice XI after the transfer window closes:
While United have done plenty in this window so far two key targets remain.
Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic has been courted throughout the summer and, while it seems to be increasingly difficult to sign the Croatian, a proposed deal is not dead yet.
Additionally, with Danny Rose’s outspoken comments recently you wouldn’t be surprised if Mourinho tried to bring the defender to Old Trafford.
The manager is still searching for a left-back he whole-heartedly wants, despite possessing Shaw, Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind.
Rose could well be that man, even he has had apologised for what he said.
