The Spaniard had been tipped to seal a move elsewhere throughout the summer, yet it was on the final day of the transfer window when he finally left the Emirates Stadium.
After revealing that he had spoken to a number of clubs regarding a potential move, Perez admitted that there was only one club he wanted to go.
The forward, when asked about his desire to return to the Riazor, said: “Arsenal understood that and I’m grateful to them. They understood my situation and the fact that I wanted to return home.
“Arsenal defended their own interests, they initially didn’t want me to return to Deportivo.
“They have reached agreements with many clubs but I clearly told them that my intention was to join Depor and no other alternative.”
Following his move back to Deportivo, the 28-year-old this afternoon paid tribute on Twitter to Arsenal and the club’s supporters after a year in the capital.
“I want to thank all supporters, teammates and Arsenal’s staff for all the affection shown since the first day,” said Perez.
“The fact of achieving dreams together with them. I’ve met an incredible club and city.
“I wish you the best for this season. See you soon.”
