The Atletico Madrid forward was expected to complete a move to Old Trafford this summer

Liverpool’s quest to keep Philippe Coutinho from the clutches of Barcelona could have a HUGE impact on Manchester United’s plans to sign Antoine Griezmann.
The Atletico Madrid forward was expected to complete a move to Old Trafford this summer but decided to stay with the LaLiga outfit after the club were handed a transfer ban by FIFA.
And with Coutinho looking likely to stay at Anfield despite relentless speculation linking the Brazilian to the Camp Nou, Barcelona could turn their attentions to Griezmann.
The French international agreed to a new release clause of £170million when he signed a new and improved contract to stay with Atletico until 2022.
But Barcelona could decide to trigger that clause if their pursuit of Coutinho ends in failure and have the necessary funds given their world record sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for £198million.
It has been widely reported that Griezmann will see his release clause return to a relatively modest fee of £85million after September 1.
Barcelona could yet launch a mega-money offer for Griezmann before the close of the Spanish summer transfer window tomorrow night.
