It hasn’t taken Jose Mourinho long to aim a little dig at Chelsea after Manchester United confirmed the signing of Romelu Lukaku.
After completing his medical and signing personal terms with the Old Trafford club, the 24-year-old’s deal has gone through and the Blues missed the chance to sign the striker.
Lukaku had been Chelsea’s number one target for most of the summer, but United came in right under Chelsea’s noses to secure the deal, which frustrated several of the club’s supporters.
Many might see it as Mourinho getting the first upper hand on his Premier League rivals, with the duo having some battles last season on the sidelines.
And Mourinho was quick to point out why Lukaku might well have picked United over Chelsea to join this summer, claiming United are the ‘biggest club’
“Romelu is a natural fit for Manchester United. He is a big personality and a big player,” Mourinho said.
“It is only natural that he wants to develop his career at the biggest club.
“He will be a great addition to the group and I know they will make him very welcome.
“I am really looking forward to working with him again.”
