But, it seems that privately, the Hammers believe Gomes is more likely to head to north London rather than east London but the Hammers haven’t given up hope of luring the midfielder to E20.
Gomes only joined Barcelona from Valencia last season and has reportedly been offered to the Hammers on a free loan to the club but on the condition that he plays a certain percentage of games throughout the rest of the season.
The 24-year-old signed for the Catalan giant for a whopping £50.7m last summer and went on to make 47 appearances for the club but has made just one this season as Barca look look to ship out him and fellow midfielder Arda Turan.
Fonte has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace on Transfer Deadline Day but if he is now acting as agent, maybe that move can now be ruled out.
Gomes has been offered as an alternative for William Carvalho, despite the latter being far more defensive minded than the former.
A move for Carvalho is still lingering around but it is looking less and less likely it will happen.
