Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has already got a couple of big decisions to make in his first Premier League match of the season at Newcastle United.
The injury to his only senior right-back Kieran Trippier in the final pre-season friendly against Juventus was just what the Spurs boss didn’t need and now he needs to make a call on not only the England international’s replacement but how it affects his formation.
After that match, Pochettino had told football.london that young full-back Kyle Walker-Peters was not ready to make his competitive debut for the club in such a big match. However, the Argentine then touted him as an option in his press conference on Friday.
The likelihood is though that Eric Dier, who began his Tottenham career at right-back, will show his versatility once again by stepping into the void.
Another option is a player who impressed against Juventus – Moussa Sissoko – and the Frenchman could play against his old side at either right wing-back, as he did in the big win at Leicester City in the penultimate game of last season, or in midfield.
However, we reckon both players will play and with Victor Wanyama and Heung-Min Son both back in contention, they could be back among the action, with the Kenyan having got some brief game time on the club’s USA tour before picking up a knee injury against PSG.
Here’s our predicted team in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Lloris; Dier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Wanyama, Dier; Sissoko, Alli, Eriksen; Kane.
How do you think Spurs will line up?
