Javier Hernandez’s popularity in his homeland of Mexico and across Latin America is having a huge impact on West Ham shirt sales, according to a report.
The Sunsays that one in five Hammers shirts being sold online at the West Ham Store is being shipped off to the other side of the world as the Mexican superstar is seen in the famous claret and blue.
Hernandez, who has scored twice in his first three games for his new club since signing in the summer, is a sensation back in his home country, not least helped by him being Mexcico’s all-time leading scorer with 48 goals in 97 appearances.
Back in July, football.london spoke to Raul Guzman from Mexican broadcaster Univision Deportes, who told us exactly just how big Chicharito is back in Latin America.
He said: “He is the biggest athlete we have. He is huge, only Formula One driver Sergio Perez compares and he isn’t that close.
“In any place he goes, where he stays, Mexico wants to know. He is a huge star in the United States too because of the big Hispanic crowd there, huge fan base, so everybody is looking for what happens with Chicharito.”
