Will Dele Alli and Kieran Trippier come back into the starting line-up?
Maybe. It’s an option. We need to analyse today, tomorrow and before the game we decide the starting XI.
How important was that Dortmund win in terms of the criticism received since the move to Wembley?
I think it was clear that it was so important for us. It will help us to get our confidence and trust of playing there at Wembley, to help us feel that it is our home. That victory was so important. I told you after the game that it means more than three points. It stopped a little bit that negativity about Wembley, that was the perception. For us it was never negative, only positive things. It will help us in the future I think.
Did you approach it any differently?
No, no. I think it’s important to improve and learn. The team after the Everton game was very good and I think the approach of the Champions League was fantastic. The performance maybe wasn’t the best, but it was very solid and you need to show that solidity and performance when you play at the top level, because the Champions League demands you be solid in your performance.
Can Harry Kane achieve his aim of winning trophies at Spurs?
I think he’s so focused. First of all he’s a great example to us everyone, he’s always trying to improve himself. His whole motivation is so high. I think we need players with that motivation. If you, like Harry Kane, show that motivation all can happen and all is possible in football. We are working very hard to try to course first build our philosophy and the way we want to play. Then to win because the objective always is to try to win games and win titles, because that is our ambition.
Can you be remembered as world class as a player if you don’t win titles?
I think it’s two different things. If you see different players, big players, it’s depends on the team and the possibility to play in different leagues and countries. I think there are many reasons.
For me there’s no doubt Harry Kane is one of the best strikers. In my opinion he does not need titles to show that he’s one of the best strikers. It’s true that players try to score to win and show good performance and in the end win titles, of course that’s the aim for everyone. But for me so far Harry Kane is showing he’s one of the best strikers in the world.
Will Fernando Llorente be involved against his old club?
I think he made his debut in the Champions League against Dortmund and why not? Maybe. We have a plan to play tomorrow and then see whether he plays or not, of comes off the bench. I think we are so happy with him and he will have a very good impact on the team and the club and important throughout the whole season.
He said the call from you convinced him to sign for Spurs, what did you say to him?
I think like always, we explained our philosophy and project for the future, what we expect from him and need from him. It was a very good conversation with him, a private conversation. I think we talked about the project, the future and what we expect from him.
Did it come down to him playing more at Spurs than Chelsea?
We never talked about playing more or less. It was more about the project and having the possibility to join us, and he was so excited with our offer. He is an experienced player, a World Cup winner. He knows very well that after you need to deserve and show your quality to have the possibility to play.
Are you finding your form now?
I think we are far away in the way we want to play and the performance. I am so happy because it is so early in the season and the performance is ok but I think we need to improve and show more quality.
We have a very good squad and very good players and now it is up to us to improve. We were talking a little bit before training today. We need to feel – we are a coaching staff that pushes a lot – but we need to show them that never is enough. They need to have a willingness to work more, to try give their best. That mix will help the team achieve all that we want in the end.
Toby Alderweireld relaxed about his contract, how important is it to sign him up?
It is so important because there are a lot of rumours in the last few months about him. It is good when he goes to the media and explains how he felt and how the team is. Not too much to say because he said I think yesterday he is happy, and very relaxed and focused on football. That is the most important thing. They need to be focused on football, try to help the team and try to win games.
Have you worked on not pressing all the time and showing variation?
The variation is very good because I think we are so flexible to play and change during the game or from one game to another. To have the possibility to modify the way you play and have different options is very important. Today we are in an era where all the clubs try to find different ways to play using different set-ups. The most important is to be able to surprise the opponent, always respecting your philosophy, but to be flexible is a very good quality. Our squad is very flexible and we can adapt everyone in a different way of playing.
Do you know when Danny Rose will be back?
No, it is like the case of Lamela or the same with Victor [Wanyama]. First of all I am coach, I am not the doctor. They know better than me. But we cannot say in one week, two weeks. We are assessing them every day. They are doing well but still we need to wait. We cannot give a date that maybe they will return to the group and start training.
Are you worried about him?
I suffer because he is your player like Lamela or different players. You want them fit and ready to compete and available for selection. After a long time like him, it is so difficult for him. All players love to play football and be fit. He is suffering a lot after eight or nine months now, from January. It is a very difficult situation. We try, all the staff, everyone to help him, to keep pushing him and make him as motivated and as soon as poss to be available again.
What do you need to improve on this season?
I think in football you can never stop, you must find different ways to try to develop the team, individual and collective. That is, every season, we always start by talking about improving and learning. For different reasons, because new players come, players that you have after two or three seasons change their status and level and need help to improve.
Players, for different reasons, something changes in their mind. I think many things happen. Each season is a different world. You have to check everything. The players change because they are one year older, more experienced, maybe they achieve or have different environment, different contract, different everything, different girlfriend, ok it is important to check everything. That is why we’re talking about trying to improve and learn.
What are you expecting from Swansea?
It will be a very tough game. I know very well their coaching staff, they have great manager in Paul Clement and coaching staff and then very good players. It is so important to be focused when you change competition from Premier League to Champions League and back because today we close the chapter of Champions League and start to talk about Swansea and be focused tomorrow.
It is an important three points, that will put us in a very good position in the table. From the beginning we need to stay there, try to compete for the top four, trying to fight in the end to win the title. I am honest and so open in talking about that. My target is to be close to the top. That is important for us.
How crucial is it to get three points to start your Premier League home season?
It is so important for us. We were talking a lot about Wembley and our environment too. Sometimes we say we feel comfortable and say we are happy. It is important to feel that and then show. Dortmund was a very good example that the team start to feel comfortable because the effect is completely different – to believe and feel that Wembley can help us was so important.
What have you made of Ben Davies?
I think Ben from day one because he arrive the same time as us, we are so happy. He is still so young but his mentality, his maturity – he is so professional – he is helping the team every season. For me he is a good example at Tottenham like a man and a professional and then if he plays well, fantastic.
What does Georges-Kevin Nkoudou need to do to convince you give him more minutes?
Try to work hard, try to perform as well during every single training session, be consistent. Today was his first training session with the group. Maybe it is too early for tomorrow but maybe he will have the possibility on Tuesday to play a little bit or from the start of the game.
Do you feel he’s settled in now?
Yes, he feels more confidence. I think always when you are young when you come from a different country and culture always you need time. He is now more settled, more relaxed and calm. It was good in the pre-season, he played a lot of minutes and was unlucky he got an injury that put him out for a while. I think now he is motivated to try to show his quality and always that is welcome.
Do you think Harry Kane can beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League record?
I don’t know that, Alan Shearer was fantastic, great, one of the best strikers. Harry has all in his hands to try to do everything that he wants. But he knows well it is step by step and about trying to build his way. I think he is doing fantastic, Harry Kane. If you see the stats he has a fantastic record.
With Harry’s mentality, all can happen. His mentality is to stay here. He is so happy not only in the Premier League, he more than happy to stay at Tottenham. He shows every single day how he loves the club, how he loves Tottenham. Only it is time to wait and enjoy him.
Have you been surprised by how quickly the new signings have settled?
We are happy all the good energy they bring. It is not only about performance, their energy in the dressing room has been fantastic. From day one they have behaved very well with everyone. The group has welcomed them and I think they feel very comfortable.
Will we see the best of this team in November?
It is true we need to improve everything, but it is exciting because the behaviour is fantastic in the group. I think we are in a very good way trying to be stronger than before and in the end it’s about tryig to win games and having the possibility to compete for big things.
Is Harry Winks still struggling with his injury?
Yes, he’s struggling. His injury was very bad and he struggled a little bit still in my opinion. Still he needs more, more, to work hard. Still he feels a little bit of pain in his ankle. Always football is about confidence, trust and feeling 100 per cent and he still struggles a little bit.
