Harry Redknapp has been giving his take on how Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy approaches transfer deadline day and what he thinks he might do with a move for Everton star Ross Barkley.
A deal for Toffees star Barkley has long been mooted for Tottenham and it seemed that a move could happen when Ronald Koeman revealed last week that the England international would definitely be leaving the club this summer after rejecting the new deal on the table at Goodison Park.
However, football.london understands that talks are currently not taking place between the two clubs as they are both too far apart on their valuation of the player, who has less than 12 months left on his contract.
Mauricio Pochettino is a big admirer of the 23-year-old, but any deal to bring him to north London is currently problematic with all sides at an impasse.
The player is believed to be keen on a move to work under the Argentine, but football.london also understands that his wage demands are proving difficult to fit within Tottenham‘s pay structure.
Now, Redknapp, who was at Spurs for almost four years, has given his take on Levy and the way the Spurs chairman operates, especially in the final day of the window.
“Daniel loves transfer deadline day. He enjoys it,” the 70-year-old said on talkSPORT.
“He’ll be pulling off deals on deadline day. It’ll be a game of poker with somebody and he usually wins. Ross Barkley, or whoever it may be, they’ll be a poker game going on somewhere.”
The full clip is at the top of the page, but Spurs fans will be hoping their chairman moves more quickly for a big name player.
