There were many rumours linking the Belgian international with a return to west London throughout the summer – but the 24-year-old instead opted for a move to Old Trafford to work with Jose Mourinho once more.
Chelsea instead completed the signing of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, and the Spain international has hit the ground running with some brilliant performances in a Blues shirt so far.
However, Le Saux believes that Lukaku would have been a goalscoring hit for Chelsea, and that Antonio Conte’s side could have been a great fit for the Belgian international.
“Romelu Lukaku would score as many goals at Chelsea as he has at Manchester United,” Le Saux told the Daily Star.
“He is just a consistent goalscorer wherever he goes, he proved that at West Brom, Everton and now United.
“Chelsea create plenty of opportunities for any forward and he would perform in Conte’s side.”
