Eden Hazard will play no part in today’s game against Everton at Stamford Bridge as he continues his recovery from injury.
The Belgian playmaker has not played yet this season for the Chelsea first team and after featuring for 75 minutes for the U23s in their defeat to Everton U23s at Aldershot Town on Friday night, he has been ruled out of today’s senior game.
According to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, Hazard is not even fit enough to make the bench today.
Despite not featuring yet this season for his club, the 26-year-old has been called up for the Belgium national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Gibraltar and Greece next week.
Hazard’s prolonged absence is due to a fractured ankle he suffered while on international duty back in June.
Antonio Conte admitted that he was surprised by Hazard’s inclusion in the squad during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“I knew the news just 20 minutes ago, for sure I’m a bit surprised about this decision,” he said at the club’s training ground in Cobham.
“Yeah I was a coach for a national team with Italy and I respect the decision of the coach [Roberto Martinez].”
When asked if he would be disappointed if Hazard plays, Conte said: I don’t think so.
“Because if Hazard is ready why is he not playing with us and only playing in the afternoon with the U23 to continue to improve his form?”
