David Luiz says Chelsea’s second half performance against Burnley was key to beating Spurs
“The victory started in the second half of the first game against Burnley, because we did great then,” Luiz told the club website.
“It’s important to show character after a defeat. We had a great mentality, and great character especially as we didn’t start the league very well last week. Playing against a fantastic team, fantastic players, we deserved to win.
“It was a clever game. You need to understand when you play against a very good team, sometimes you can keep more of the ball but sometimes you need to try to surprise them on the counter-attack with one touch. I think we did great in a clever way.”
Nigel Winterburn expects Diego Costa to finally get his move from Chelsea
“As a player I could never see myself going on strike, he’s got to focus on his football and get himself back,” Winterburn told Sky Sports.
“But he’s saying, ‘I’m told I’m not wanted so why do you want me back?’
“It’s a mess quite honestly.
“But he’s being paid by Chelsea football club and until you are sold you have an honour to the club to commit 100 per cent if you are fit to play.
“He’s going to get a move but Chelsea want the right price for him.”
Ryan Giggs believes Chelsea need two more signings
“Chelsea showed great character on Sunday,” Giggs wrote for Sky Sports.
“I think Antonio Conte would like a couple more players to give the team a boost but they’ve silenced a lot of critics with that performance.
“To go away from home, even if it was at Wembley, with players making their first Premier League starts, without Eden Hazard and be up against it for 90 minutes, it was a huge result for them.”
Chelsea loanee Lewis Baker looks for more game at Middlesbrough
“I’m happy to get my first goal in a Middlesbrough shirt,” Bakers said to the Boro website.
“We have a great squad, to start for me was great and I need to keep putting performances like today to show why I should.
“It was a great day for us – I thought we performed well and we’re through to the next round, which is the main thing.”
