It would be interesting to see what reaction Danny Drinkwater would get on his return to Leicester City should he start for Chelsea at the weekend.
As fate would have it, the 27-year-old’s first appearance for the Blues could be against his former club when they travel to the King Power Stadium on Saturday when the Premier League gets back under way after the international break.
Drinkwater was a late signing for Chelsea, with the deal having to be extended over the 11pm cut off time last Thursday so that the paperwork could all be put through.
But the England international has not wasted any time in trying to impress Antonio Conte and force his way into the starting XI, which seems like a slightly hard ask.
Chelsea’s official account posted photos of Drinkwater training for the first time with his new teammates, while others were away on international duty, in order for him to get up to speed with Conte’s train of thought.
The Italian often talks of his ‘idea of football’ so if Drinkwater wants to start against his former side then he is going to have to impress this week and learn quickly in order to get the nod.
Standing in his way is fellow summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko, who was also at training with Cesc Fabregas, and N’Golo Kante, who is currently with the French national team.
With intense training during the week, Conte will no doubt be trying to get Drinkwater ready if called upon, however you have to expect the Premier League winner to be down the pecking order when it comes to starting central midfielders.
