Jean Seri has given Arsenal fresh hope that they may yet be able to strike a deal for him before the end of the transfer window.
The Nice midfielder, a target for the Gunners this summer, was in action last night as the Ligue 1 side were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers by Napoli on.
Speculation before the game suggested that the match would be Seri’s last in a Nice shirt, with the 26-year-old set to complete a £33 million switch to the Camp Nou.
But last night the player insisted that was not the case, with reports now stating that Barcelona have pulled out of the deal.
“No, it was not my last game with Nice,” said Seri, who is said to have been left ‘confused’ by the sudden collapse of his move to Spain.
“I will be in Amiens on Saturday.”
Bizarrely there are even claims that the only reason Barcelona made a move for the midfielder was because they were being urged to by their fans on social media.
When asked about his future last night, Seri said: “I do not know much.
“I told everyone to let me focus on the goal, which was today to focus on the Champions League and then see if I leave or stay.”
Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Seri all summer, with Arsene Wenger keen to add another central midfielder to his squad before the end of the transfer window.
Informal talks were held with Nice earlier in the summer but the Gunners have not followed up the discussions up with a firm bid as they instead concentrate on moving players out of the squad first.
The midfielder has a release clause set at £33m.
