Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s move to Chelsea may not be as clear cut as expected as Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation.
Although the Blues agreed a fee with Arsenal for the player yesterday, they are said to be concerned that Liverpool will make a move in an attempt to hijack the transfer.
Both Chelsea and the Reds have been linked with the England international all summer, yet it was Antonio Conte’s side that made the first move.
However, the Premier League champions are hoping to rush through a deal just in case Liverpool fail in their attempt to sign Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.
Jurgen Klopp is extremely keen on signing the French international and the Reds are in the process of submitting a new bid in the region of £75million.
Having had a £65million offer turned down, Monaco could once again reject Liverpool’s increased offer as they are adamant they don’t want to let the winger depart the Stade Louis II.
That could then lead to the Merseyside club switching their attention back to Oxlade-Chamberlain.
While Chelsea are in the driving seat at present, Sky Sports News and talkSPORT presenter Jim White has claimed that the player’s preference is a move to Anfield.
Given the Blues need to strengthen their squad ahead of a busy season, expect them to push through the transfer as quickly as possible before Liverpool lodge an offer.
