The latter has handed in a transfer request at Southampton this afternoon amid interest from both the Blues and Liverpool, claiming that he want to play European football and challenge for major trophies.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have recently been said to be leading the race for PSG man Aurier – but Conte is known to be looking for wing-backs and the Ivory Coast international certainly fits the bill.
Now, according to the Telegraph, the manager has been reassured that Chelsea will make three more signings before the close of the transfer window – which will mean stepping up their interest in both Aurier and Van Dijk.
The Dutch international was identified as Antonio Conte’s top transfer target earlier in the summer, but that move seemed dead in the water with the defender’s ambition to move to Liverpool.
However, after Southampton accused the Reds of speaking to the player without their permission, the Anfield club backed off – leaving some room for Chelsea.
Now, with Van Dijk handing in a transfer request at St Mary’s, the Telegraph believe Antonio Conte will have the backing of the Blues board to step up the club’s interest in the centre-back.
For Aurier, both Chelsea and Manchester United will be forced to wait and see if the player’s appeal against his conviction of assaulting a police officer last year is successful.
That kept the Ivory Coast international from entering the country to face Arsenal in October last year – and the issue will have to be resolved before any Premier League move is possible.
