United boss Jose Mourinho has put Morata at the top of his wanted list as he looks to draft in a new striker, and is reported to have already failed with one bid in the region of £54million.
Mourinho is likely to make an improved offer, but could still be pipped to the signing by Chelsea after it was claimed that Blues owner Roman Abramovich has sanctioned a £70million bid.
Chelsea are in the hunt for Everton’s Romelu Lukaku as doubts surround the future of Diego Costa, but Morata is also a target and will cost substantially less than the £100million the Toffees want for their prized asset.
A bidding war could be on the cards and it could come down to Morata himself to decide where he heads to next if he does leave the Bernabeu.
There also remains a doubt over whether Real will cash in, as despite only making 14 appearances last season, it is thought Morata still remains in the thoughts of Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane.
