Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is hoping to use his failed move to Spurs as motivation to ruin the team’s night in the Champions League.
The 28-year-old, who was linked with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, has been a major hit in the Bundesliga since moving from Saint-Etienne in 2013.
Aubameyang was shown around White Hart Lane and the club’s training base a year earlier, only for manager Andre Villas-Boas to pull the plug on a potential move.
Following the rejection, the Gabon international is aiming to add to the three goals he scored against the Lilywhites in the Europa League in 2016 when the sides meet at Wembley this evening.
“Of course, this is once again an extra motivation,” Aubameyang told Bild.
“In 2016 we progressed past Spurs in the Europa League and I scored three goals in the tie. Of course I want to meet them again.
“[Back in 2012] I was in Tottenham at the time, looked at the stadium and the training ground and we talked.
“But after that nobody contacted me again. That’s definitely extra motivation for me on Wednesday.”
