The much-coveted title has been awarded following an extensive independent audit of Boro’s Academy at Rockliffe Park over recent months.
In line with the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), confirmation of the status means Boro’s Academy will remain among a small number within the highest of four category brackets.
The overall aim of the EPPP is to ensure the highest quality of coaching for and development of young players, and ultimately increase the number and ability of those gaining professional contracts and representing clubs at first team level.
Academy Manager Craig Liddle said: “We are delighted that we have once again been recognised with Category One status. A tremendous amount of hard work has gone in from the Academy and football club towards this important achievement.
“Our Academy has a fantastic history of achievement and with the Category One status in place we can look forward to continuing that good work.”
In other Academy news, former Head of Sport Science Peter Hood has begun a new role as Assistant Academy Manager.
