Tottenham Hotspur’s new £850m stadium will still be the biggest in London despite Arsenal’s plans to increase the capacity of the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners are planning to increase the capacity at the Emirates by around 800 seats. The project – labelled ‘Operation Saturn’ – will see the extra numbers added to the existing club level seating at the ground. Arsenal are currently in talks with Islington Council about the project.
That ground, which is currently being built beside and on top of the remnants of the bulldozed White Hart Lane, will open in time for the 2018/19 season with a capacity of 61,559.
Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy has half-jokingly admitted in the past that the stadium’s capacity was deliberately engineered to be slightly higher than their local rivals down the road to ensure it will be the biggest stadium in the capital.
Spurs are currently playing at Wembley Stadium while their new ground is being constructed.
