One of the summer’s longest running transfer sagas ended in an anticlimax with the transfer window slamming shut at 11pm last night without a deal being done.
The Gunners did make a last-ditch attempt to sign the French international, yet, much to the disappointment of the club’s fans, the deal never got over the line.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Lemar struck twice for France in their 4-0 victory over the Netherlands in Paris last night – and French teammate Paul Pogba may have played his part in helping the player decide his future.
After convincing Romelu Lukaku to turn down Chelsea to move to Manchester United, ‘Agent P’ looks like he has struck again.
Taking to Instagram this morning, the French midfielder posted a photo of himself with Lemar with the hashtag ‘Agent P’ – a nod to Manchester United fans’ praise of his influence in bringing in big-name players.
As well as that, Pogba captioned the image with an intriguing message.
It read, “Heureux du résultat d’hier, au travail pour le prochain objectif”, which translates as “Happy with yesterday’s result, working for the next objective”.
While this could innocently mean he is aiming to lead France to World Cup qualification, it could also be read as that he is trying to convince Lemar to move to Old Trafford – and the ‘Agent P’ hashtag only fuels this speculation further.
Even though the winger was heavily linked with Arsenal and Liverpool in the transfer window, there was rumours that the Red Devils were going to make a surprise move for the player.
It looks like we will have to wait until January to see if ‘Agent P’ has convinced another player to join Jose Mourinho’s team.
As if yesterday wasn’t bad enough already for Arsenal fans.
