The Brazilian defender was allowed to leave after falling down the pecking order at the Emirates as he struggled to earn a starting place despite the Gunners’ switch to a back three.
Arsenal wished Gabriel well on Instagram after confirming his departure to La Liga on Friday by sharing a highlight reel from last season’s FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City, calling it his best game for the Gunners.
Gabriel commented underneath: “Thank you so much, I played with a lot of love.”
The Brazilian’s departure opens the door for Calum Chambers to remain a Gunner this season.
It had been speculated that the 22-year-old would allowed to leave ahead of the new campaign having spent last season with Middlesbrough.
Crystal Palace were said to be interested in taking Chambers either on loan or on a permanent basis but now it looks increasingly likely that the Englishman will stay in north London and battle Rob Holding for a starting berth.
