Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri has admitted that he is fully focused on playing for the French club despite talk of an imminent move to Barcelona.
Spanish newspapers Diario Sport and Mundo Deportivo both report that the Arsenal target will complete a €40million move to Ernesto Valverde’s team this week.
The Gunners held informal talks with the French club in the summer, yet it looks like it is the Spanish side who will win the race for the Ivory Coast international.
Despite a lot of speculation surrounding a big-money move to the Nou Camp, Seri has admitted that he’ll have to wait and see if a move to Barca goes through.
Seri, speaking after Nice’s 2-0 win over Guingamp, said: “I’m not in contact with anyone.
“I focus on what I have to do. If my agents and Barcelona see each other and talk, I don’t know anything about that.
“If it happens, it happens. I’m still a Nice player today, and we’ll see what happens later.”
While a move to Spanish giants Barcelona would be at the front of people’s minds, the 26-year-old has stated that he is only thinking about helping Nice secure a win over Napoli in their Champions League qualifier.
“It’s not the time to think about it,” added Seri.
“There are a lot of things to do, notably our qualification, and that’s the most important thing for me.”
Following Nice’s home win over Guingamp, manager Lucien Favre was asked by the media about the future of his star player.
The Swiss coach quashed talk of Seri sealing a move to Barcelona, even though it has dominated the headlines in France and Spain.
Favre said: “An imminent agreement for the transfer of Jean-Michaël Seri to the Barça?
“Are you serious? I cannot imagine life without Seri.
“But as long as the market is not finished, like many other clubs, everything is a mystery. He has played all his games professionally.
“I cannot tell you anything else, I know nothing at all.”
