Antonio Conte is putting his full backing behind N’Golo Kante to plug the gap left by Cesc Fabregas when Chelsea face Spurs on Sunday afternoon – but has hinted Tiemoue Bakayoko could be given his debut.
The Spanish international saw red against Burnley for two bookings at Stamford Bridge, one for sarcastically clapping what he believed to be a wrong decision from the referee.
That has left the Blues a little short in the middle of the park – with Tiemoue Bakayoko only just returning from injury and Nemanja Matic now having been sold to Manchester United.
However, the Chelsea manager is backing N’Golo Kante to plug the gap left by Fabregas – and has even hinted that new signing Bakayoko could be given his debut at Wembley.
The new signing from Monaco hasn’t played a minute of football for the Blues yet and wasn’t 100% certain to be available for Sunday’s clash – but the boss has confirmed he is ready.
Conte told the Express: “We all know very well the characteristics of N’Golo, and he is a player who has improved a lot on the previous season.
“Last season he played with Matic and with Cesc and had a fantastic season, and he has the characteristics to adapt in both cases.
“But now we have to find another solution after always playing with Kante-Fabregas and because we don’t have other midfielders available. Now Bakayoko is ready and I have another opportunity.”
