Antonio Conte has spoken out about the decision to send Kenedy back to the UK from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Asia.
The 21-year-old posted on social media that outraged many in China, including “f***ing China” and “wake up China you idiot”, in reference to a sleeping security guard, on his Instagram.
Kenedy and the club apologised to China for the upset that it caused, however he was then sent home today as part of the punishment over the comments that he made while the team were all in Beijing.
Speaking after the 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in Singapore, Conte said: “Unfortunately, it happened this situation. Because we all know it is a pity. The player was sorry about this situation. It is a difficult situation, also for the club. For this reason we make this decision for the player.
“The player understood his mistake, he is sorry for what happened. Now he must go home.”
Thomas Muller scored a brace and Rafinha got one as Chelsea went 3-0 down inside the first 30 minutes. They did fight back through Marcos Alonso and Michy Batshuayi, and it was that fight back that pleased Conte the most.
“”For sure three goals in only half hour, it is not simple, it is a difficult situation. But despite this I think that the players dedication was very good, because we didn’t give up and the commitment was always top and we tried to fight, despite hard work in these days,” Conte added.
“Our start wasn’t good, but the dedication (was) and the players tried to show me great will to change the result and we are during the pre-season. We are working very hard, Bayern are a top, top club. I don’t discover this.
“I think Bayern are one of the top club in the world and regularly they have won the league in their country and the Champions League usually arrived. If they are not good then it’s only quarter-final in the Champions League. But I think we must take the positives from this game and to continue to work, to improve.”
