Carroll has yet to feature in this campaign and missed the end of the last one thanks to an adductor problem, the latest in a huge line of injuries he has suffered since signing for the club in 2013.
The frontman is back in training at the Hammers ahead of his latest comeback but the club are certainly not going to rush him back, what with an international break on the horizon as well.
Carroll, who has been linked with a loan move back to Newcastle this summer, isn’t expected to feature at St James’ Park this weekend but his manager said he is still a key player for the Hammers.
Bilic said: “A major role, he is a major player. Only when he is fit and we want him long-term available. It is very frustrating for the team, no good for the team or anybody or him when he is not available for a long period, it’s a big blow not having him.
“We wanted to make him train for a bit longer, not rush him back and he has to be fit like any other player. When he is fit, we know his values.
[Could he leave this summer?] “I can’t see that, no. I can’t see that.
